My own implementation of a tool for browsing goods nomenclatures (taken over from the single European customs tariff) - work on this tool started as an alternative to the one provided by the Financial Administration of the Slovak Republic or by the web portal of the European Commission.

Reasons for building my own implementation:

• The UX and UI of the tool provided by the Slovak Financial Administration -
• • clumsy and unintuitive controls that take needlessly many steps, and no simple real time fulltext search.
  • A search algorithm that shows only the target item, without the tree items that led to it
  • Texts that quote other items but carry no link to them
• Adding features such as a JSON API for another application I am working on, which will occasionally need to check the current data - the Financial Administration publishes the data as unreadable XML
• The overall graphic look of the Financial Administration's tool

It simply seems to me that this is the standard corrupt dilettantism of the Slovak Ministry of Digitalisation, headed at the time by Peter Pellegrini - we grab the millions and hire programmers for peanuts, or we build a centipede of a supply chain where 99 links are "our people" and the last link is a starving startup that does the job out of desperation, because it wants something for its portfolio and a reference.

The tool is only a list of nomenclatures, it does not contain things like the list of customs duties and the export/import conditions and restrictions for individual items. It is mainly useful when putting together the intra-European statistics on the movement of goods, known as Intrastat.
